Heavy rain and landslides brought on several villas at a resort on Koh Samui to collapse on Saturday. Torrential rain over the previous a number of days flooded several areas on the island and, based on climate reviews, rain is expected to continue for the following few days.
The landslide hit the Merit Resort Samui early Saturday morning. The resort’s general supervisor described how a total of eight villas collapsed, and 3 others had been broken and are susceptible to crumbling. The cause of the landslide is believed to be the development of a road within the space, which can have led to a large amount of water pooling and loosening the soil around the resort.
She also mentioned that the resort had never seen a disaster like this in its 15 years of operation. No deaths or important accidents were reported, but a quantity of resort employees members received some minor accidents. The supervisor went on to clarify that step one was to get the area drained of water.
